Education is a key mission of the Liver Research Institute. Our researchers write articles about the diagnosis and treatment of liver disease for medical professionals as well as for members of the public. The institute sponsors Arizona-based health outreach programs, such as screenings for hepatitis C. Members of the institute also participate in medical meetings and conferences nationally and internationally where their latest research is discussed.
Medical Student Education
Medical students at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson gain exposure to work being done by the Liver Research Institute from clinical and educational experiences offered through the UA Department of Medicine and the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
They also have access to elective courses relating to all subspecialties within the UA Department of Medicine (see those with the prefix “MEDI”). Refer to the College of Medicine – Tucson course catalog for specific courses and descriptions. Current medical students should also explore the opportunities offered by student clubs (including the UA Internal Medicine Student Association) in these areas. Learn more at the MedCats website (NetID login required).
Regarding Clerkship and Sub-Internship (Sub-I or SI) opportunities for third- and fourth-years, please contact Lucy Contreras at (520) 626-1574 or email@example.com
Residents gain exposure to work being done by the Liver Research Institute through the general internal medicine residency rotation for the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Gastroenterology Fellowship Program fellows through the UA Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology must complete an intensive one-month rotation on clinical hepatology where they participate in the care of patients suffering from various liver conditions, including hepatitis, cirrhosis, end-stage liver disease and pre- and post-operative transplant services.
Those that express a qualified interest also have an opportunity to participate in research being conducted at the institute.
