How to Apply

Positions are offered through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Applications are accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The application deadline for the current interview cycle is December 2, 2016. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered for an interview.

A complete application consists of:

  • ERAS Application
  • Personal Statement
  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation
  • Dean’s Letter or Proof of Graduation
  • Medical School Transcripts
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Résumé – You must explain any gaps in training since graduation
  • USMLE or COMLEX scores (Scores will be evaluated individually)
  • U.S. clinical experience is desirable
  • Graduation within the last five (5) years is highly preferred, documentation of ongoing clinical responsibility and/or residency/fellowship training is required
  • Photograph (required)
  • Applicant must have taken USMLE Step 2 (CK) and USMLE Step 2 (CS) by the time of Match
  • Contact the Dean's office of your medical school for further information regarding this process

As a condition of employment, all new University of Arizona College of Medicine/Banner – University Medical Center South residents must obtain a valid fingerprint clearance card, in accordance with A.R.S. § 15-1881, and pass a criminal background check.

Please note, you must apply through ERAS and register with NRMP for participation in the match.

International Medical Graduates

International applicants must meet the following additional requirements:

  • Applicant must have passed USMLE Step 1 and USMLE Step 2 (CK)
  • Applicants must have either taken and passed, or applied to take USMLE Step 2 (CS) by the time of application to the residency program
  • USMLE Step 3 is not required for residency training
  • USMLE Step 2 (CS) must be verified by the time of Match (mid-March of every year)
  • If you have graduated by the time of Match, ECFMG certification is required

Visa Information

The program considers sponsorship of J1 Visas for international applicants. Sponsorship is at the discretion of the program.
