Physician Well-Being in Academic Medicine

Drs. Noshene Ranjbar and Mari Ricker will present the current state of physican burnout and well-being in academic medicine and concrete actions that you can take in order to improve your own well-being and that of those around you.  They will describe the risk factors for burnout, contributing factors, how to identify signs of burnout in others, and what to do if you find yourself in a state of burn out. The presentation will be interactive and you will leave with tools that you can take back to your team.

PRESENTER BIOS:

Dr. Mari Ricker is an Associate Professor in the University of Arizona Department of Family and Community Medicine.  She is the Associate Director for the Integrative Medicine in Residency Program at the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. She collaborated on the development of a interactive online Physician Wellbeing Module. She has a strong interest in physician resiliency, burnout prevention, and finding meaning in our work.  She was recently appointed to direct the new GME Program for Resident Wellbeing at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson.  

Dr. Noshene Ranjbar is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson, and Director of the Integrative and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Clinics at Banner - UMC South. Dr. Ranjbar also serves on faculty at Center for Mind-Body Medicine, incorporating mind-body skills training in her work with American Indian populations as well as in her work with physician wellness and resiliency. She directs the new Integrative Psychiatry Track for residents and fellows, in collaboration with the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine, including a special attention to resident self-awareness, wellness and resilience.
