New information regarding the Find-a-Provider project for Banner Health on how online profiles are listed for physician, mid-level and advanced practice providers requires review of those profiles to ensure recent changes are live. The Kyruus site used to edit profiles is not public facing, so edits there may still need to be pushed to BannerHealth.com for patients to be able to see them. See additional advice…

UA Snakebite Treatment Makes Major Advance

Giving hope that his treatment may work in humans, Vance G. Nielsen, MD, of the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson, has published results showing his carbon monoxide-iron-based therapy can inhibit snake venom’s effects for up to an hour in animals. The treatment eventually could be delivered with a device similar to an EpiPen autoinjector and stocked on ambulances and in first-aid kits.

Grant Helps UA’s Southwest Telehealth Resource Center Connect Providers, Rural Patients

A $975,000 cooperative agreement grant from the Office for the Advancement of Telehealth will allow the center—part of the Arizona Telemedicine Program headquartered at the UA Colleges of Medicine in Tucson and Phoenix to continue offering telehealth services to health-care providers in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Nevada through August 2020.

Native American Cancer Prevention Issues Call for Funding Proposals

To identify collaborative cancer-related research projects for funding to start Sept. 1, 2019 (pending NIH approval), the Partnership for Native American Cancer Prevention invites Letters of Intent from interested investigator teams. Paul Langlais and Larry Mandarino—in the UA Division of Endocrinology affiliated with the UAHS Center for Disparities in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, made the October 2017 cover of the journal Molecular & Cellular Proteomics.
