Transplant, Vascular, Endocrine Surgeons Join Tucson Faculty

The University of Arizona Department of Surgery and Banner – University Medical Center recently welcomed several new surgeons to Tucson. All are members of Banner – University Medical Group, the practice plan composed of faculty physicians of the UA College of Medicine – Tucson.

David A. Bull, MD
Dr. David A. Bull comes to Tucson as professor and chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the UA Department of Surgery and as the Jack G. Copeland Endowed Chair of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the UA Sarver Heart Center.

Dr. Bull returns to Arizona from the University of Utah, where he was a professor of surgery, chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and program director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency Program. He specializes in heart, lung and esophageal surgery, heart and lung transplantation and the implantation of mechanical circulatory support devices.

Dr. Bull received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his general surgery residency at the UA, followed by a fellowship in vascular surgery at the UA and a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Utah. He joined the University of Utah School of Medicine faculty in 1994.

Dr. Bull’s research efforts are focused on the development of new therapies to promote myocardial recovery and the development of novel immunotherapies for the treatment of cancer.

Wei Zhou, MD
Dr. Wei Zhou has joined the UA as professor and chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery, which is the specialty associated with surgery on arteries and veins. Previously she was professor of surgery at Stanford University and chief of vascular surgery at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System.

She earned her medical degree from New York Medical College and completed her surgery training at the University of California, San Diego, and a fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. She earned her medical degree from New York Medical College and completed her surgery training at the University of California, San Diego, and a fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston.

Dr. Zhou is a distinguished surgeon-scientist and leader in the impact of carotid interventions. She has authored dozens of articles in surgical journals and has been the principal investigator of more than 30 clinical trials.

Tze-Woei Tan, MD
Dr. Tze-Woei Tan, a vascular surgeon, comes to Tucson from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, where he was director of endovascular services and medical director of the non-invasive vascular laboratory.

Dr. Tan received his medical training at the International Medical University in Malaysia and the University of Melbourne, Australia, followed by post-graduate training at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh in Scotland, the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University, and Boston University Medical Center. He is the author of dozens of journal articles and scholarly publications.

Lilah Morris-Wiseman, MD
Dr. Lilah Morris-Wiseman specializes in treating thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal gland disorders using minimally invasive endocrine surgical techniques.

She received her medical degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, completed her residency in general surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles, and then completed fellowship training in surgical endocrinology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
