Ryan McGrath, MD, a hospitalist for Banner – University Medical Center Tucson who specializes in internal medicine, was recognized at the Banner Combined Leadership Meeting on Sept. 20 for his work to improve timely patient discharges at the hospital.
Dr. McGrath, who is also a clinical assistant professor in the University of Arizona Division of Inpatient Medicine, has more than four years of experience in the field of medicine and is taking an active role in making health care easier for patients.
He is a member of the Banner – UMC Tucson Facility and Operational Excellence Team with a focus on discharge timeliness.
The facility goal is to discharge 35 percent of patients scheduled for discharge by 1 p.m. It’s performance for the month of August was 29 percent. A key component to reaching this goal is for physicians to complete all discharge orders by 10 a.m.
Dr. McGrath is coordinating an effort to improve the timeliness and collaboration between physicians and case managers to reach the hospital’s patient discharge goal.
“We would like to challenge all providers to help in this initiative to perfect the patient experience,” he said.
