The 1,068 physicians who practice at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and the 708 physicians who practice at Banner – University Medical South have elected a chief of staff at each hospital, effective Jan. 1.
The chief of staff is the chief administrative officer for hospital physicians, overseeing physician credentialing and peer review and coordinating important other medical staff functions, such as the patient care quality programs at the hospital.
At Banner – UMC Tucson, Chan Lowe, MD, an associate professor in the University of Arizona Department of Pediatrics, was elected chief of staff for a two-year term. Dr. Lowe is the division chief of pediatric hospital medicine, caring for children admitted to Banner Children’s – Diamond Children’s Medical Center. He received his medical degree and completed his residency at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson.
Serving with Dr. Lowe on the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee are Francisco Moreno, MD, chief of staff elect; Robert Harland, MD, secretary-treasurer; and Dorothy Gilbertson-Dahdal, MD, and Marlon Guerrero, MD, members at large.
At Banner – UMC South, Lisa Stoneking, MD, an associate professor in the UA Department of Emergency Medicine, is the new chief of staff.
In addition to treating patients in the Banner – UMC South Emergency Department, Dr. Stoneking also is the program director of the hospital’s Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Stoneking received her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown and completed her residency at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, S.C.
Serving with her on the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee are Joel Funk, MD, chief of staff elect; Bethany Bruzzi, MD, secretary-treasurer; and 
Bujji Ainapurapu, MD, and Krista Sunderman, MD, members at large.
