Patient Care

Care for patients suffering from liver disorders and related diseases is provided by physicians within the Boyer Liver Institute and Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology through the facilities of our primary clinical partners, Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and South campuses, the University of Arizona Cancer Center – North Campus and the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in Tucson.

We sponsor Arizona-based health outreach programs, such as screenings for hepatitis C.

Our providers offer state-of-the-art treatments for patients with all forms of liver disease. By participating in clinical trials of new therapies, the institute is able to provide many patients with early access to potentially life-saving treatments before they are available to the general public. Clinical trials are performed in collaboration with the pharmaceutical/device industry as well as the National Institutes of Health.

Hepatitis C Clinics

Chronic Hepatitis C is often referred to as the “silent epidemic” because patients can be infected for many years without symptoms before a diagnosis is made. Deaths from complications of Hepatitis C in the United States are increasing and have surpassed 60 other notifiable infectious conditions combined. The urgency to find affected persons and to treat them is increasing in the climate of highly effective treatments.

The Hepatitis C program offered at the Thomas D. Boyer Liver Institute and Banner - University Medical Center Tucson endeavors to increase Hepatitis C treatment to those in need.  This is accomplished by our dedicated staff who work to link patients to comprehensive, coordinated care as well as our program’s ability to decrease the financial burden of Hepatitis C treatment on low-income and under-insured patients. Additionally, a coordinated Hepatitis A and B vaccination program with dedicated staff is available to improve vaccination completion rates. This program is also offered to all patients with chronic liver disease.
