SPEAKER: Christian Bime, MD
Dr. Christian Bime joined the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine in 2013 after completing Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He obtained his Medical Degree in 2001 from Cameroon and a Master’s degree in Epidemiology at Michigan State University School of Medicine in 2004. Subsequently, he completed residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan.
His research interests include studying the genetic and non-genetic factors that contribute to health disparities in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) risk and mortality, the application of immunological and genomic biomarkers in the clinical care of patients with ARDS, and exploring the link between asthma, exercise, and obesity. He hopes to identify patient-specific genetic biomarkers that would ultimately lead to the application of genomic medicine in clinical care of patients with ARDS. Dr. Bime joined the research laboratory of Dr. Joe G.N. “Skip” Garcia in 2014 to develop skills in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, and translational science that will ultimately help him transition into independence and become a leader in translational ARDS research. With the guidance of Dr. Garcia and a strong mentorship and advisory panel, Dr. Bime received funding from the University of Arizona Health Sciences - Career Development Award (UAHS-CDA) in 2014 and has since submitted an NIH K-08 grant application that explores the role of the selectin-P-ligand as a candidate gene in ARDS. Dr. Bime has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and actively mentors several residents and fellows in translational research. He serves as the medical director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Banner UMC –Tucson.
