Research

The faculty of the Division of Gastroenterology are involved in a variety of clinical, translational and basic research projects in the digestive tract, liver and pancreas. They work closely with the University of Arizona Cancer Center, the only NCI-designated cancer center in the state. The UA has top rated researchers and unparalleled related resources in optical sciences and biomedical engineering.

Research

The faculty of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology are involved in a variety of clinical, translational and basic research projects in the digestive tract, liver and pancreas. Curriculum

This program is fully accredited by the ACGME and fellows completing it are well-prepared for subspecialty board examination and certification.

Inpatient & Outpatient Experiences

Clinical training is provided at Banner – UMC Tucson (main teaching hospital), Tucson VA Medical Center and Banner – UMC South. The combined program offers access to approximately 750 beds, a diverse patient population, renowned faculty and opportunities for research.

Gastroenterology Fellowship Program

The University of Arizona College of Medicine offers a three-year Gastroenterology Fellowship Program (clinical track) combining clinical training, education and research opportunities at Banner – University Medical Center (UMC) Tucson and South campuses and the Tucson VA Medical Center, the flagship facility of the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS).

The medical curriculum within the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology includes educational and training opportunities for medical students, residents and fellows alike.

Gastroenterology and Hepatology

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology provides comprehensive resources for the diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases. These include disorders of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, pancreas, gall bladder, liver and bile ducts. We are committed to excellence in patient care, education and research in digestive diseases (gastroenterology) and liver disorders (hepatology).

Accreditation Alliance Allows Las Vegas GI Fellows to Learn about Liver Care at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson

Nov. 30 was the last day of a month-long fellowship rotation in hepatology and liver transplant services at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson for Ying Margie Tang, MD.

She’s a second-year gastroenterology (GI) fellow at the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

She’s also nearly eight months pregnant, which she took in stride over the last few weeks as it’s her third child.
