About the Lecture

Join us for an enlightening lecture as we host nationally recognized aging and musculoskeletal pain expert Dr. Una Makris. With a unique focus on the impact of pain on mental health in the aging population, Dr. Makris will guide participants through evidence-based research that offers proven novel behavioral approaches to pain management and the improvement of mental health.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), an estimated 51 million adults suffer from chronic pain, with back pain ranking as the most common. A majority of older adults report bothersome pain, with over 50% suffering from chronic pain (Pain, The Journal of the International Association for the Study of Pain). The development of persistent pain in older adults is frequently multifactorial and can include musculoskeletal causes as well as social and psychological factors (JAMA).

Using a patient-centered pathway to the development of applicable psychosocial methods to improve quality of life, Dr. Makris will offer participants thought-provoking approaches based on clinical research and proven methodology.
