With the Division of Infectious Diseases joining the number of UA Department of Medicine divisions who’ve added a grand rounds lecture series back to their academic calendars—and the Division of Nephrology expected to join them soon—space on your calendar may be at a premium these days.
That’s particularly true in January if you also count the upcoming Winter Lung Series Conferences (one in January, two in February), DOM Research Seminar Series, Inaugural DOM PI Poster Session, Sarver Heart Center 30th Anniversary Lecture Series and 16th Annual Living Healthy With Arthritis (LHWA) Conference.
And it doesn’t including a new Banner – University Medicine public lecture series that starts in February. That series will be kicked off by DOM Chair Monica Kraft, MD, on Feb. 2, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa on “A Personalized Approach to Asthma.” It includes eight dates with sites that alternate between Phoenix and Tucson through Feb. 28. Look for more news on those coming shortly.
Kicking it all off is the inaugural Infectious Diseases (ID) Grand Rounds on Jan. 3.
John Po, MD, PhD, the ID Grand Rounds coordinator and director, ID Fellowship Program, said the lectures are a “reboot” of the Tucson ID lectures, which began in July 2014 and wrapped up in November. They will remain focused on research in clinical infectious diseases, epidemiology, infection control and prevention, and microbiology and immunology.
The ID Grand Rounds will always occur the first Tuesday of the month from 11 a.m. to noon in COM Room 6120. They’re open to clinicians, residents, fellows, and researchers in the university and community. Likewise, Dr. Po added, he anticipates speakers will be drawn from multiple disciplines across the UA Health Sciences colleges and broader university community.
For details on the first ID Grand Rounds and other upcoming events, see a quick summary below:*
