Cerner EHR Transition Postponed, Training Sign-Ups, Forums, Workshops Still On

The June 1 go-live for the new Cerner electronic health record (EHR) from Epic has been delayed, it was announced Friday, March 10. A new date is expected to be announced within two weeks.

“Training sessions are still going on. We don’t have a new go-live date yet. It’s similar as with Epic where it got postponed for 60, 90 days, but training is still a go,” said Irene Robles, administrative support supervisor for Banner – University Medical Group for the Department of Medicine. Folks should sign up for and keep going to training sessions, especially if they’ve never worked with this EHR previously, she added.

If they have not already done so, physicians are encouraged to sign up by March 17 for training. Click here for instructions on how to register.

In a message sent out last week on the postponement, it said, “Making a transformation of this magnitude is no easy feat. It requires laser-sharp planning to ensure that it is executed with as little disruption as possible to our patients and our staff. As key players in our success, we believe that you should have the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding this critical project to adeptly lead your teams through this transition.”

Extending the go-live date will allow Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and South clinical operations to better achieve:

  • A successful migration of its robust clinical and financial data from Epic to Cerner.
  • Ensure soundness of new models of delivery (those that have not previously existed in the Banner operating model), which also gives trainees more time to hardwire routines into daily practices.

The postponement provides additional time to practice in the Cerner environment. Please review the list of scheduled Cerner conversion forums and scheduled weekly meetings. Take PTO as scheduled. Any previously blocked PTO is potentially now available. You may discuss this with immediate team leaders. And look for updated talking points soon for additional details.
