Gordon Ewy, MD, director emeritus of the UA Sarver Heart Center, professor emeritus of the UA College of Medicine - Tucson, and founder of the center’s Women's Heart Health Education Committee, has been named winner of the Mary Anne Fay Women's Heart Health Advocate Award.
The honor will be bestowed Friday, Nov. 3, during the 2017 Heart of Women's Health Luncheon at Skyline Country Club, 5200 E. St. Andrews Drive, Tucson, AZ 85718. Featured speakers include Elizabeth Juneman, MD (below left), associate professor, and Khadijah Breathett, MD (below right), assistant professor, both in the UA Division of Cardiology. Dr. Juneman, who also is director of outpatient cardiology at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and South, joined the UA faculty in 2015. Dr. Breathett starts with the UA on Sept. 11, coming from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora, Colo., where her research includes a focus on issues related to heart transplant disparities and risk factors in heart failure. Check-in begins at 11 a.m., lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. and the program runs from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m.

Dr. Ewy was named a "CPR Giant"—of which the Sarver Heart Center can boast of three such designees—by the American Heart Association in 2000. He also recently received an honorary doctor of science degree from Georgetown University, where he completed his residency and fellowship training and served on faculty before joining the University of Arizona in 1969.
