Cardiologist Dr. Joe Alpert picked for Valentine’s Day ‘Lo Que Pasa’ Interview

The subject of the article, “UA Cardiologist Talks about a New Way to Help Patients Watch Out for Their Health,” is a post in the DOM News Archive last November about several department faculty physicians participating in filming of educational videos for patients on various health issues related to their subspecialties.

The videos, a venture of a British entrepreneur Dr. Alpert made acquaintance with while giving a lecture at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles a few years back, are designed to give patients a little more personal attention with doctors explaining care issues related to their diagnoses on themes from cardiovascular disease to diabetes, etc.

They’re branded under the Doctorpedia™ name, after the company was reorganized last fall following investment by venture funds to expand efforts.

Dr. Joe AlpertIn the Lo Que Pasa article, Dr. Alpert (right)—a past chair of the UA Department of Medicine—discusses how the videos fill a conversational void left by physicians who may feel overworked due to pressure to see more patients, keep up with “meaningful use” aspects of the latest electronic health record and curtail general discussions with patients.

Each of the videos is about 20 minutes long and they provide that more in-depth background patients are craving for in today’s fast-paced world. He said he recommends patients watch a particular video and, afterward, they can chat to answer additional questions the patient may have,
