U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Hospitals listings came out Tuesday for 2023-24 with Banner – University Medical Center Tucson once again on top of the heap in Southern Arizona and No. 2 among hospitals across the state, behind only Mayo Clinic Phoenix.
In addition, Banner – UMC Tucson was rated as “High-Performing” in one adult specialty, cancer, and nine adult procedures/conditions:
- Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma;
- Colon cancer surgery;
- Lung cancer surgery;
- Prostate cancer surgery;
- Uterine cancer surgery;
- Heart failure;
- Stroke;
- Kidney failure; and
- Pneumonia.
This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals procedures and conditions ratings. All are in areas with concentrations of physicians within the Department of Medicine. U.S. News focused it’s Arizona reporting on the “6 Best Hospitals in Arizona for Cancer 2023-2024,” of which Banner – UMC Tucson and the University of Arizona Cancer Center were again second behind Mayo and tops in Southern Arizona.
Banner Gateway Medical Center and Banner – UMC Phoenix came in as the Nos. 3 and 4 hospitals in the state. Banner – UMC South, which last week was lauded as one of the most socially responsible hospitals in America by the Lown Institute (receiving "A" grades in Health Equity, Value and Patient Outcomes), was rated as High-Performing in one adult procedure/condition for pneumonia.
TMC Healthcare – now listed at No. 5 in Arizona and No. 2 in Tucson – had ranked No. 1 in Tucson in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
