Obstructive sleep apnea is a common condition that has been associated with increased mortality, especially in individuals who have cardiac arrhythmia. A University of Arizona physician-scientist has received a grant to try to find out why.

Joann Sweasy, PhD, an expert in DNA repair and genomic instability, has joined the University of Arizona Cancer Center as associate director for basic sciences.
When testing for medical conditions such as lung cancer disease, doctors know that tissue biopsies are necessary and potentially life-saving, though the procedures used to gather tissue can lead to dangerous complications, from bleeding to lung collapse.
Five years ago, the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson launched a new pathway to medical school. Named the Pre-Medical Admissions Pathway (P-MAP) program, its purpose is to assist students interested in pursuing medicine, but who may have faced educational and economic challenges in their journey to medical school.
