Dermatology Multispecialty Laser & Aesthetics Program Open House

'Cookin' Docs' and Gluten-Free Diets at Hacienda at the River

Led by Juanita Merchant, MD, PhD, professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at the UArizona College of Medicine – Tucson, a group of diet-conscious physicians join executive chef David Sullivan at the Hacienda at the River retirement community to share tips with residents on how to eat a tasty gluten-free diet if you suffer from celiac disease. The plate of the day was ratatouille with three differently flavored sauces over rice, noodles and quinoa. This special event was the kickoff to a series of similar Docs in the Kitchen/Cookin’ Docs culinary tasting demonstrations to show how healthy eating doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice flavor.

Dr. John T. "Jack" Boyer Memorial

The family and friends of the late John T. “Jack” Boyer, MD, hosted a celebration of life May 16, 2023, in the HSIB Forum of the Health Sciences Innovation Building. The University of Arizona College of Medicine Tucson founding physician launched three divisions in the Department of Medicine, including Rheumatology, Geriatrics and Hematology-Oncology. New Sleep Center Ribbon-Cutting & Tour Day

Led by Pulmonary Chief Dr. Sai Parthasarathy, the new world-class University of Arizona Health Sciences Center for Sleep, Circadian Rhythm and Neuroscience Research greatly expands research capabilities. Health Sciences senior vice president, Dr. Michael Dake said it further strengthens UArizona’s position as a global leader in sleep medicine.

2023 Annual Awards Ceremony

The University of Arizona Department of Medicine 2023 Awards Ceremony highlighted 23 students, residents and fellows in internal medicine with 26 honors for outstanding achievement at the HSIB Forum. A fellow, 11 residents and 11 medical students were recognized. Multiple awards went to students Rosemarie Turk (3) and Connor Vuong (2), both graduating this spring. Impressed by the number of honorees returning for residency or fellowship training, Department Chair James Liao, MD, said excellence in teaching awards will return next year.
