Education

One of the most important missions of the University of Arizona Division of Hematology and Oncology is to train the next generation of cancer physicians and clinician-scientists.

Medical Student Education

We lecture in the medical student curriculum around both blood disorders and oncologic disorders.

To enrich their medical school education, students can pursue short-term fellowships during vacation periods or extended full-time research experiences through the College of Medicine programs.

Fellowships

Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship Training Program

The Divisions’ Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship is a three-year subspecialty program for individuals who completed internal medicine training and wish to become certified in Hematology and Medical Oncology. An additional goal is to provide each fellow with an experience in research and teaching that, in addition to their clinical training, will prepare trainees completing the program to pursue successful careers in a clinical practice and/or academic environment.

At any one time, we have 10 to 12 fellows.

Dual degree students who may be interested in the Cancer Biology should contact the Program as soon as they have been admitted to the MD/PhD Program.

Integrative Cancer Scholars
This NCI-funded fellowship prepares PhD candidates for careers in cancer research through mentorship from basic science and clinical science experts. Scholars choose a lead mentor and mentor team, representing nationally competitive basic and physician scientists.
