Karen Stout, M.D., from University of Washington, presents Pregnancy in Congenital Heart Disease:  More Than Just an Esoteric Question for Board Exams?

Dr. Karen Stout is a professor in the divisions of cardiology in the departments of Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Washington in Seattle.  She went to medical school at the University of Arizona, completed an internal medicine residency and Chief residency at OHSU in Portland, and cardiology fellowship and congenital heart disease fellowship at the University of Washington.  

Dr. Stout started and directs the Adult Congenital Heart Disease program at University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital, which is a collaborative program between the hospitals and has grown to be one of the busiest in the US.  She is the chair of the 2016 ACC/AHA Care of the Adult with Congenital Heart Disease Guidelines and was chair of the AHA Scientific Statement on Heart Failure in CHD.  She is on the Adult Congenital and Pediatric Cardiology Council of the ACC, is past chair of the AHA committee on Adults with Congenital Heart Disease, on the ACHD Exam writing committee and the Cardiology Board of the ABIM, as well as leadership roles at the Adult Congenital Heart Association.  

In Dr. Stout's spare time, she enjoys snowboarding, hiking, biking, travelling and hanging out with her family, including Jackson the dog.
