David A. Kass, M.D., from Johns Hopkins presents Cardiac Dyssynchrony - Can we make something bad into something good? 

David A. Kass, MD is the Abraham and Virginia Weiss Professor of Cardiology, and Professor of Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, and Cellular and Molecular Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. He directs Institute of CardioScience and the 41-year continuous NIH-T32 post-doctoral Training Program in Cardiovascular Disease.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Applied Physics and Engineering from Harvard College and M.D. from Yale University. He is a long-time member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation, American Association of Physicians, and Fellow of the American Heart Association and International Society of Heart Research.

Dr. Kass has received numerous awards including American Heart Association’s Basic Science Achievement Award and Melvin Marcus Award, Johns Hopkins Professor's Award for Distinction in Teaching and David Levine Mentorship Award. He has published over 400 papers garnering nearly 46,000 citations with an h-index of 110.  His lab is funded by the NIH, American Heart Association, Fondation Leducq, and other sources. He’s mentored over 85 fellows and students, many of whom are now professors and academic research leaders.  

Dr. Kass's highly translational research focuses on elucidating novel mechanisms of myocardial disease and developing new therapies to treat it. He pioneered clinical and basic research into cardiac resynchronization, and his landmark work on phosphodiesterase type 5 and type 9 inhibitors revealed their role as therapies for treating heart disease.  He developed numerous analytical methods to assess cardiac and large artery function, and co-founded Cardioxyl Inc. - a drug company that developed clinical nitroxyl donors for the treatment of heart failure, and was purchased by Bristol Meyers Squibb in 2015.
