Professor Merri Pendergrass, MD, PhD is a renowned endocrinologist, the Clinical Chief, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, and the Director, Adult Diabetes Program at the University of Arizona College of Medicien – Tucson. She earned her medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, completed her residency at the University of Texas, San Antonio, where she also completed a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism. She joined the University of Arizona a few years ago after serving as vice president for Medco Health Solutions’ Diabetes Therapeutic Resource Center® in Dallas. Prior to joining Medco she was the  director of the diabetes program at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, where she also was interim chief of the Section of Diabetes and Metabolism and associate clinical chief, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension.  She also had been on the faculty of Tulane School of Medicine. She has been funded by the NIH, CDC and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and the American Heart Association.  She authored numerous journal articles and is a reviewer for several professional journals.She has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international meetings.  Dr. Pendergrass has had a major impact on the division of Endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, the department of medicine, and the COM since her arrival here.  Her passion is diabetes, and our GGP division asked Dr. Pendergrass to speak with us all today about Diabetes and Prevention in Primary Care.
