Infectious Diseases Grand Rounds

Tue, 09/05/2017 - 11:00am to 12:00pm

Speaker: Anita Koshy, MD
Title: "CNS Parasites: Who, When, Where, Diagnosis, and Treatment"
Speaker Bio:

Dr. Anita Koshy is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology, as well as in the Department of Immunobiology.  Dr. Koshy studied biology at Stanford where she discovered her love of neuroscience research.  Ultimately, this interest led her to attend Duke University for medical school.  During her research year, when she was a Howard Hughes Medical Student Fellow, she confirmed her desire to become a clinician-scientist by working in the lab of Donna Ferriero (UCSF).  Her clinical and research interests led her to specialize clinically in the area of Neuro-Infectious Diseases by training in Internal Medicine at the University of Washington, Neurology at University of California, San Francisco, and Infectious Diseases at Stanford University.  During her time at Stanford, Anita was fortunate to do a postdoctoral fellowship in the lab of John Boothroyd, PhD, a world renowned molecular parasitologist.  In the Boothroyd lab, she was able to establish a technique to identify which cells in the mouse (but especially in the brain) have interacted with parasite Toxoplasma gondii.  In 2012, Anita moved to the University of Arizona to establish her own lab which continues to pursue understanding the molecular underpinnings of the brain-Toxoplasma interaction.
