Pharmacology & Toxicology Seminar: Liver Injury & Repair

Wed, 11/15/2017 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

Pharmacology & Toxicology Seminar
Nov. 15, 2017
Noon-1 p.m.
Skaggs Bldg. Room 325, Tucson

SPEAKER: James Luyendyk, PhD, Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation, Institute for Integrative Toxicology, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich.
TOPIC: “The Role of the Hemostatic System in Acetaminophen-Induced Liver Injury and Repair”

Dr. James Luyendyk received his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Colorado State University and his PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Michigan State University, after which he conducted post-doctoral studies at The Scripps Research Institute. Prior to joining the faculty at Michigan State University in 2012, he was a faculty member of the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutics at University of Kansas Medical Center for 5 years. Dr. Luyendyk has published 89 peer-reviewed research articles and reviews in the areas of liver disease and toxicity. His current research focuses on processes whereby the blood coagulation cascade is activated by hepatic injury and the mechanisms whereby coagulation proteases and their targets, namely fibrinogen, contribute to the pathogenesis of liver toxicity and repair. He is currently a member of the editorial board of Toxicological Sciences and serves as a member of the NIH XNDA Study Section. In addition, Dr. Luyendyk has been an active member of the Society of Toxicology, having served previously on the Education Committee and Graduate Education Subcommittee, and currently as a member of the Committee on Diversity Initiatives and as President of the Michigan Regional Chapter.
