SPEAKER:  George 'Geordie' Lawry, MD
TOPIC:  Clinical Skill Development: Two “New” Approaches to Finding Our Way Back Home

A nationally-recognized leader in the education of medical students, residents and fellows, George 'Geordie' Lawry, MD serves as the Chief of the UC Irvine (UCI) Division of Rheumatology in the Department of Medicine, the Clinical Director of the UCI's Multispeciality Clinics and as a Clinical Professor of Health Sciences at UCI.  His clinical interests include ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis, bursitis & tendinitis, connective tissue diseases, gout & crystalline arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematous and systemic vasculitis. His research interests center around education, curriculum development and teaching effectiveness, with a particular focus on musculoskeletal physical examination skills.

Highly-regarded for his contributions to the field of medicine, Dr. Lawry has been named to the lists of America's Top Doctors (Gout, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Vasculitis) and Best Doctors in America — Rheumatology.  He has also been a national finalist for the AAMC Humanism in Medicine Award, a nominee for the Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award and has won the University of Iowa Collegiate Teaching Award and the University of Iowa President and Provost's Award for Teaching Excellence. He has been named 'Teacher of the Year' eleven times and was recognized as an American College of Physicians Master Teacher.  

Dr. Lawry earned his bachelor's degree in Biology from Stanford University before going on to complete his medical degree at Johns Hopkins University.  He served as an intern and junior resident in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard), as senior internal medicine resident at Stanford University and completed his fellowship in rheumatology at UCLA.  He is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology.
