Sarver Heart Center Grand Rounds - Pathophysiology of Mitral Regurgitation: Implications for Mitral Valve Repair

Joel Holland, MD, Staff Physician, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, has worked with Cleveland Clinic structural interventional cardiologists to apply echocardiography to optimize strategies and outcomes with transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

Dr. Hollandgraduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He completed his residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics. Since training he has been affiliated with the major teaching hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. He was co chief of cardiology at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center before moving on to University Hospitals of Cleveland where he was associate chief of cardiology. For the last 17 years he has been at The Cleveland Clinic where he has been in the imaging  and clinical areas.

While his early career involved both general cardiology and catherization and coronary interventions, he later developed interests in echocardiography, valvular heart disease and adult congenital heart disease which currently are his major interests. He has extensive expertise and experience in the use of different forms of echocardiography to evaluate patients for mitral valve repair techniques, and optimize surgical outcomes, which form the basis of this talk.
