Guest Speaker: Bruce (BJ) Miller, MD
Dr. BJ Miller is a pre-eminent speaker on patient-centered care, palliative care, and end-of-life care. Drawing on his expertise as a physician and former executive director of Zen Hospice Project, and his personal experience as a patient, he advocates for a health care system that maximizes quality of live and that minimizes unnecessary suffering. His TED Talk, “What Really Matters at the End-of-Life,” about encouraging empathic end-of-life care has garnered over 5.5 million views to date and ranks among the most viewed talks. Dr. Miller is also an assistant clinical professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and an attending specialist for the Symptom Management Service of the UCSF Helen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the country’s first outpatient palliative care clinics.
