Made It Happen: How an Invention Goes from Lab to License

Wed, 05/23/2018 - 12:00pm

How do results and inventions stemming from research make their way from the lab to the world? Come and find out.

During research, Professor Loy and his graduate student at the time, Stephanie Tolbert, developed a broad-spectrum sunscreen using novel nontoxic, bio-based materials.

Through his collaboration with Tech Launch Arizona, the technology was patented and licensed to one of the largest suppliers of aloe vera in North America, MexiAloe; the company is a subsidiary of Novamex, one of the largest distributors of Mexican products in the United States.

Loy is a prolific inventor, with over a dozen inventions to his name ranging from florescent epoxies to sunscreens to antioxidants. In 2017, Tech Launch Arizona honored Loy as Inventor of the Year for Physical Sciences.

Please join us for an interactive discussion where we’ll delve into how research gives rise to inventions that can truly change the world.

The discussion and Q&A will be moderated by Laura Silva, Tech Launch Arizona's Senior Licensing Manager in the College of Science.

This event is primarily for faculty, researchers, graduate students and staff.

A light lunch will be provided, so please RSVP on the TLA website by 5:00 PM on Friday, May 18, so we have an accurate count.
