SPEAKER: Katherine R. Birchard, MD | Associate Professor of Radiology, Cardiothoracic Imaging Division, Department of Radiology, University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill

Abstract: This presentation will highlight the correlation between cardiopulmonary physiology/pathophysiology and imaging findings on cardiopulmonary imaging studies, mostly plain film and CT.

The Department of Medical Imaging is pleased to have Katherine R. Birchard, MD, presenting at our Grand Rounds on Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the College of Medicine - Tucson, Room 5403, at noon.

Dr. Katherine Birchard is an associate professor of radiology at UNC in the Division of Cardiopulmonary Imaging. She completed her residency in diagnostic radiology at UNC in 2006, and completed her fellowship in cardiopulmonary imaging at Duke University in 2007.

Dr. Birchard has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers and has edited one textbook: Critical Observations in Radiology for Medical Students. She is a reviewer for both Radiographics and Journal of Thoracic Imaging, and serves regularly as a reviewer for cardiopulmonary exhibits at RSNA. At UNC, she served as the director of medical student education for the Department of Radiology from 2013 to 2018, and served as the Radiology Education Curriculum director for the UNC School of Medicine from 2012 to 2018.  Dr. Birchard is a member of the Academy of Medical Educators at UNC, and was awarded the Departmental Resident Teaching Award in 2013.
