About the Speaker
Deborah Meyers, PhD, Professor and Co-Chief, Division of Genetics, Genomics, and Precision Medicine, Department of Medicine, and Co-Director, Division of Pharmacogenomics, Center for Applied Genetics and Genomic Medicine has had extensive experience with family linkage analysis and positional cloning, and genome wide association studies of genes for common diseases including asthma and COPD. She was PI of one of the NHLBI STAMPEED grants to perform genome wide association studies (GWAS) in asthma and related phenotypes. In addition, she was co-PI of a ARRA GO grant to perform both GWAS and gene expression studies on well characterized subjects with asthma using system biology techniques. She has been an active senior co-investigator in the NHLBI Severe Asthma Research Programs (SARP) leading with Dr. Bleecker, the studies defining phenotypic heterogeneity and leading the genetic studies. Dr. Meyers is PI of two TOPMed grants where whole genome sequencing is being performed on the SARP and SPIROMICS COPD cohorts. Since moving to UA, her major interests are methods and approaches to using genome wide data including whole genome sequencing for personalized medicine and pharmacogenetics in common diseases.
