Ventana Research Lecture on ErbB Receptor Activity and Breast Cancer

Mon, 08/20/2018 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

TOPIC: "Therapeutic implications of kinase-independent functions of the ErbB receptors in breast cancer"
SPEAKER: Joyce A. Schroeder, PhD | Head, Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, UA College of Science, and Professor, Molecular and Cellular Biology, BIO5 Institute, Cancer Biology - GIDP, and Genetics - GIDP

Monday, Aug. 20, 2018 | Noon - 1 p.m.
Auditorium 5104 ABCD, Ventana Medical Systems, 1910 E. Innovation Park Dr., Oro Valley

Through the Science Exchange Collaborative with Ventana Medical Systems, University of Arizona faculty will have access to distinguished speakers Ventana periodically invites to Tucson. The Collaborative's next lecture will be delivered by Joyce A. Schroeder, PhD, professor and chair, Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Arizona.

The epidermal growth factor receptor family of oncogenes are important drivers in cancer, yet targeting the canonical activities of this family has proved somewhat elusive in breast cancer.

Dr. Schroeder’s laboratory discovered that in breast cancer the EGFR-dependent transformation and metastasis are driven independently of the kinase activities of ErbB receptor. These processes are targetable by next-gen peptide-based therapeutics.

Due to limited space, these seminars are available to the first 20 UA faculty members who RSVP. Please contact Matt Peters, mwpeters@email.arizona.edu, to RSVP.

Visitors coming from the UA with MD degrees need to sign a form to be in compliance with the Sunshine Act.
