About the Speaker
Dr. Linda L. Restifo graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a medical degree in 1984 and a doctorate in genetics in 1986. She is currently a professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson in neuroscience, neurology, and cellular and molecular medicine, and she is a member of the UA BIO5 Institute. With her team, she works to understand normal brain development and the changes in that brain development that leads to cognitive disorders. She has an overarching interest in the genetics of that development, ranging from the control of large-scale morphogenetic movements to the remodeling of individual neurons. Her lab uses the fruit fly model system, Drosophila melanogaster, in part because of its phylogenetic similarities to mammals. Learn more at her lab website.
