About the Speaker
Dr. Bime is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona School of Medicine, Tucson Arizona, USA. He obtained his MD degree from the University of Yaoundé 1, Cameroon, and a Master of Science in Epidemiology from Michigan State University School of Medicine, East Lansing MI, USA. Subsequently, he completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Wayne State University, Detroit MI, USA where he served as Chief Medical Resident for one year. He completed a postdoctoral clinical and research fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2013. During fellowship training, he was funded by a National Research Service Award (NRSA) from the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH/NIAID) to study the mechanisms through which nasal steroids control severe asthma associated with chronic rhinosinusitis. As part of the American Lung Association - Airways Clinical Research Centers ALA-ACRC) Data Coordinating Center (DCC) at Johns Hopkins University, he was actively involved in the design and conduct of three large multicenter randomized control trials in asthma. In 2013, he joined the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Sleep, and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Arizona School of Medicine as Assistant Professor of Medicine. He has pursued clinical and translational research in asthma and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). In asthma, he received an early stage investigator award from the Arizona Biomedical Research Commission (ABRC) to conduct a pilot study on aerobic exercise among obese asthma patients. He also received a career development award from the University of Arizona Health Sciences to pursue translational ARDS research under the mentorship of Dr. Joe G.N. (Skip) Garcia. Recently, he received a mentored research scientist award (K08) from the NIH/NHLBI to pursue translational ARDS research exploring the genetic and non-genetic factors that underlie the health disparities in ARDS susceptibility and associated mortality. His long-term career goals include translational research to identify patient-specific (genetic and non-genetic) risk factors that underlie differential response to ARDS therapy, and develop therapeutic response profiles that will guide a personalized approach to the ARDS management. The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) ™.
