"Clinical Development of Breast Cancer Preventive Agents: Lessons Learned and Future Opportunities"
Sherry Chow, PhD
Dr. Sherry Chow is a Research Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC). She co-leads the UACC Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC) Program and directs the UACC Analytical Chemistry Shared Resource. She is a clinical translational scientist focusing on early phase clinical development of cancer chemopreventive agents and development of biochemical and molecular biomarkers for evaluation of cancer risk and drug efficacy. Through her long-standing role as the Principal Investigator of an NCI-funded early phase cancer prevention clinical trials program, she has led and facilitated the evaluation of repurposed drugs, novel agents, alternative dosing schedules/approaches, and novel vaccines for prevention of various types of cancer. In addition, she has led and participated in multiple NCI and DOD-funded early phase clinical trials to develop breast cancer preventive agents that have minimal toxicity and higher tolerability. Furthermore, she has mentored dozens of graduate students, medical students, research fellows, and early stage investigators in cancer chemoprevention and biomarker analyses, served on the advisory board for training grants, and led several funded projects that engaged multiple groups of faculty from various disciplines.
