Malvika Varma, MD
“Staying Human: Talking about experiences with Death and Dying as a team”

Dr. Varma completed medical school in India in 2007 followed by Internal Medicine Residency at St. Francis Hospital, Evanston in 2013- an affiliate of the University of Illinois, Chicago. She received the honor of becoming a Chief Resident at her program. She went on to do a year of training in Hematology and Oncology at Medical College of Wisconsin, after which she worked as an academic hospitalist at St. Joseph Hospital, Milwaukee till 2019.  Dr. Varma is now a core faculty member at the Internal Medicine residency program at the UA and Banner – UMC Tucson. Among her other roles, she is a Societies Mentor at the UA College of Medicine, leads the group on Ambulatory Curriculum for internal Medicine residents, and is also a member of the Clinical Competency Committee and Program Evaluation Committee, UA Internal Medicine Residency Program – Tucson Campus. She is currently a fellow at the University of Arizona’s Learning to Lead program, and a member of the Faculty Development Committee on Anti-Racism in Medicine. Her interests include bedside teaching, curriculum development, assessments and evaluations in clinical medicine, and mentoring.
