Presenter: Dr. Mitch Rosner is the Henry B. Mulholland Professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemical sciences from Harvard University and his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Dr. Rosner completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in nephrology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He is board certified in nephrology and internal medicine. His research interests include the use of urinary biomarkers in the early diagnosis of acute kidney injury; development of renal protective strategies for patients at high-risk for acute kidney injury; risk factors for the development of severe hyponatremia, and strategies to prevent the progression of renal failure in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. He has published numerous peer review articles and book chapters on these topics and is the author of five textbooks. Dr. Rosner is on the board of directors for the Renal Physicians Association and the International Society of Hemodialysis. He is also the director of the American Society of Nephrology Board Review Course. In addition, he’s deputy education director for the International Society of Nephrology and associate global director for the Americas for the Royal College of Physicians (UK). Dr. Rosner is the winner of numerous regional and national teaching awards including the Master Educator Award and All-University Teaching Award at the University of Virginia. His work in education also was recognized by the American College of Physicians with its 2008 Evergreen award. He has been recognized as well by the U.S. Department of State for development of joint collaborative education and research efforts between the University of Virginia and San Bortolo Hospital (Vicenza, Italy) and the University of Padova (Padua, Italy). In 2019, he was awarded one of the highest honors in nephrology, the Robert Narins award for lifetime contributions to nephrology by the American Society of Nephrology as well as the International Vicenza award for his contributions to critical care nephrology.
