Presenter: Dr. Mei Methawasin’s research seeks to understand the pathophysiology of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and identify its potential therapeutic targets through an integrative approach. She is experienced in cardiomyocyte mechanics and in-vivo cardiac functional techniques. Her current work focuses on the study of sex-specific myofilament dysfunction in postmenopausal HFpEF. She earned a medical doctorate (1999), a diploma in anesthesiology (2004), and a diploma in cardiovascular thoracic anesthesia (2007) from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, and holds a PhD in physiological sciences from the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson (2014). She served as a general physician (1999-2001) and an anesthesiologist (2004-08) for the Thailand Ministry of Health, before beginning her studies at UArizona, where she also has been a research scientist (2014-2019) and research assistant professor (2019-now) in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine.
