Presenter: Qin Yang MD, PhD is Associate Professor of Medicine, Physiology, and Biophysics at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Yang obtained his medical degree in China and PhD in Japan. He completed his medicine residency training at the Jacobi Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and went on to finish his endocrinology and diabetes fellowship at BIDMC and Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard Medical School. After his fellowship, Dr. Yang became an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard. In 2014, he moved to UCI, and has stayed on faculty since. Currently, Dr. Yang serves as the Medical Director of the UCI Diabetes Center and Director of the Endocrinology Fellowship Program. He was the Interim Chief of Endocrinology at UCI from 2020-2023. Under his leadership, UCI Diabetes & Endocrinology, for the first time, made the top 50 nationwide in the US News and World Report rankings in 2023. Dr. Yang’s clinical interests are diabetes and pituitary disease. His research focuses on studying insulin production, insulin action, and energy expenditure in obesity and type 2 diabetes. Dr. Yang has received numerous awards, including Klarman Scholar, Dean’s Junior Physician/scientist award, and Orange County’s top doctor.
