Presenter: Dr. Lok graduated from the University of Hong Kong Medical School. She completed her hepatology training in London under Dame Sheila Sherlock. She was on the faculty at the University of Hong Kong until she moved to the United States in 1992. She is currently Professor of Internal Medicine and Assistant Dean for Clinical Research at the University of Michigan.  

Her research focuses on natural history and treatment of hepatitis B and C. Her research also includes liver cancer and fatty liver. She has published more than 600 papers including each edition of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) guideline on hepatitis B

Dr. Lok served as Associate Editor of Hepatology in 2001-2006 and Senior Associate Editor of Gastroenterology in 2011-2012 and is currently an Associate Editor of Hepatology Communications. Dr. Lok served as AASLD President in 2017.

She has mentored more than 60 fellows and junior faculty from all over the world. She has received numerous awards for mentoring, research and service including awards from the American Gastroenterological Association, the Hepatitis B Foundation, the AASLD, the American Liver Foundation, the Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver, and the European Association for the Study of the Liver. She received an honorary DSc from the University of Hong Kong and a Distinguished Professorship from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Lok is a member of the American Association for Physicians and the National Academy of Medicine.
