Presenter: A physician-scientist specializing in infectious diseases, Dr. Rajat Madan earned his medical degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Ajmer, India, and his doctorate in molecular biology and immunology from the University of Cincinnati.

Following his postdoctoral fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Virginia, Dr. Madan developed a successful research program at UC focused on understanding host factors in the pathogenesis of infectious diseases. His research has contributed to key insights into neutrophil-driven inflammation in Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) and the roles of host genetics, obesity, and bile acid metabolism in CDI pathogenesis. This research has been supported by NIH K08 and R01 grants, as well as VA MERIT grants.

Dr. Madan also is dedicated to education and mentorship, guiding trainees across various stages, including undergraduate and graduate students, residents, fellows, and early-career faculty. He currently holds several leadership roles, including associate chair for research in infectious diseases, member of the MD and PhD admissions committees at UC, and a member of the VA R&D committee. Dr. Madan is an active reviewer on multiple NIH study sections and serves on the board of the Anaerobe Society of the Americas.
