Enzyme's Movement May Be Key to New Cancer Drugs

Revealing all the steps required to activate an enzyme called a protein kinase may identify new ways to target cancer, according to new University of Arizona-led research. The UA Petersen HIV Clinics will host an annual patient “Meet & Greet” event this Thursday, May 17, at the Neopolitan pizzeria Vero Amore from 5-7 p.m. The event was planned by the clinics’ Consumer Advisory Group, made up largely of patients, to give patients in Southern Arizona an opportunity to learn more about programs and research developments for HIV, and to get a little face time with their care team. Enjoy door prizes, raffles and light refreshments. Katherine Ellingson, PhD, assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, received a $387,000 Arizona Biomedical Research Commission Investigator Grant to develop a “playbook” for prescribing antibiotics to treat infectious diseases in skilled nursing facilities in Arizona.
