Dr. Zoe Diana Draelos, considered one of the most influential women in cosmetic science, was a member of the Class of 1983 and did her internship and residency training in dermatology at the College of Medicine – Tucson as well. She earned her UArizona engineering degree in 1979.

Dr. Jay Wesley Smith, who served at the college from 1970-1999 as a professor of medicine, General Internal Medicine section chief, Internal Medicine Residency Program director and College of Medicine – Tucson vice dean for academic affairs, died Feb. 2 in Tucson at age 87.

Through a collaborative study, University of Arizona and USC cancer researchers showed combining several cancer therapies created an effective immune response for patients experiencing relapse or resistance of multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer.

Long-time DOM and other colleagues note his contributions in a golden era for the college and UArizona Health Sciences, of which he also was vice president. Memorial service set for Mon., Jan. 29, 1 p.m., Vistoso Funeral Home, Oro Valley.
