DOM First Research Seminar in Room 8403 at Noon, Thursday, Sept. 8

The inaugural lecture in the new Department of Medicine Research Seminar Series will be held at noon, Sept. 8, in UAHS Room 8403, also known as the Chase Bank Auditorium.

The lecture’s theme is "Surfactant Protein-A and Asthma: From Basic Science to Translational Research."

Presenters include Monica Kraft, MD, UA professor of medicine, chair of the UA Department of Medicine and the Robert and Irene Flinn Endowed Chair of Medicine, and Julie Ledford, PhD, a UA assistant professor of medicine and immunobiology. Both also are members of the UA Asthma and Airway Disease Research Center and BIO5 Institute, and affiliated with the UA Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine.

DOM Vice Chair for Research Jil Tardiff, MD, PhD, noted that the series pairs a senior and junior investigator, usually from different divisions, for two 20-minute presentations followed by a question-and-answer period. The lectures are designed to spotlight the quality of research being done by physician-scientists in the department and encourage mentorship between junior and senior faculty.

A light lunch will be served in the style of grand rounds.
