Cancer survivor and Canyon Ranch Research Director for Exercise Physiology Michael Hewitt, PhD, talks nutrition and exercise as the basis for the "Foundation of Health" during his address at the Living Healthy With Arthritis Lecture hosted by the UA Arthritis Center at DuVal Auditorium, Oct. 5.

The University of Arizona Arthritis Center would like to extend a special invitation to their colleagues in the UA Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine and Division of Hematology and Oncology to attend the Living Healthy With Arthritis lecture on Oct. 5, which features Canyon Ranch's Michael J. Hewitt, PhD, a lung cancer survivor who was treated at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson.

His lecture, “The Foundations of Health” will be Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. in DuVal Auditorium. Hewitt is research director for exercise physiology at Canyon Ranch in Tucson.

“Michael has long been a part of our programming and has had such a positive impact on so many in our community,” said Arthritis Center Outreach Coordinator Tracy Shake. “This is a special year for Michael with his recovery from lung cancer.  He was treated by physicians at Banner, both Drs. Sam Kim and Linda Garland, and will be sharing his inspirational story and experiences.”

He said he was very thankful for the outstanding care and treatment he received  at Banner and the UA Cancer Center.

Shake added, “He is one of the best presenters we have ever had and we anticipate this lecture will be, by far, the most meaningful given his experiences of the past year.  He is back at full speed and recently completed a 5K — the San Diego Free to Breathe with his team, ‘Team Reslience.’  He was one of only four lung cancer survivors present.”

Hewitt’s 75-minute presentation is free and open to the public and will include time for questions and answers.

Seating for the lecture is limited and prior registration is requested. For more information or to register, please visit the UA Arthritis Center website, www.arthritis.arizona.edu, or call (520) 626-5040 or email livinghealthy@arthritis.arizona.edu

Parking is available in the Banner – UMC Tucson visitor/patient parking garage just south of the hospital’s main entrance. Please bring your parking ticket to the lecture to be validated for free parking.
