Benjamin Alouidor Awarded the Best Student Scientific Award at the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology's 55th International Conference

Benjamin Alouidor, a first year Master’s student in the UA College of Medicine – Tucson Medical Pharmacology-Perfusion Sciences Graduate Program was awarded the Best Student Scientific Award at the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology’s 55th International Conference, held May 2017 in Boston, MA. Ben presented a case study entitled, “R-Oxy-LVAD: A Novel Minimally Invasive Off Pump Method for Central Oxygenation with Biventricular Decompression.”  The case report presented an innovative therapeutic approach, led by UA Department of Surgery’s Zain Khalpey, MD, PhD, MRCS, for treating cardiogenic shock patients requiring Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) support. Ben was also mentored by Raymond Wong, PhD, CCP, the program director of the Perfusion Sciences Graduate Program, as well as, Banner University Medical Center - Tucson’s team of clinical perfusionists. The award included a scholarship of $1000.
