‘Solving Problems of the Foot and Ankle,’ Subject of UA Arthritis Center Lecture, Oct. 4

Almost 8 out of 10 Americans have experienced a foot problem, half say it has impacted their quality of life and those with regular foot pain tend to have a host of other health issues, according to a survey by the American Podiatric Medical Association.

“Solving Problems of the Foot and Ankle” will be addressed by L. Daniel Latt, MD, PhD, in a free presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 6-7:15 p.m., at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson, DuVal Auditorium, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson. The 75-minute talk will include time for questions and answers.

Dr. Latt will discuss the anatomy and biomechanics of the foot and ankle, how to prevent injury and overuse and the role of body alignment and movement in foot and ankle health. He will present the latest research findings and recommendations for a range of problems, including achilles tendinitis, bone spurs, bunions, hammer toes, plantar fasciitis and fractures. He also will share an orthopaedic surgeon’s inside look at advanced forms of diagnosis and treatment, including non-surgical and surgical interventions.

An associate professor of orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine with the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson and associate professor of biomedical engineering with the UA College of Engineering, Dr. Latt also is medical director of the UA dance medicine clinic.
