Dr. Bauman’s mother, Dr. Kay Bauman made a donation to the UA Cancer Center, memorializing James K. Bauman, MD, with a plaque that hung on the new building’s wall. Find out how the plaque found a new home with the daughter’s arrival back in Tucson.
Head-and-neck cancer specialist Julie E. Bauman, MD, MPH, is featured in this week’s Lo Que Pasa UA employee newsletter in a story headlined as “Home Sweet Home: A Physician's Return to Tucson.”
Unlike some newcomers to Tucson, Dr. Bauman didn’t need to develop a tolerance for three-digit heat when she became associate director of translational research and chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the UA Cancer Center and UA College of Medicine – Tucson’s Department of Medicine. Her family has been a part of the UA's story for more than a generation.
Both her parents were physicians in Tucson and her mother practiced medicine at the UA. Dr. Bauman returned to Tucson in 2016 after making a name for herself at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.
The article by UA Cancer Center senior communications manager Anna Christensen, MPH, was originally featured on the center’s website and in its “Act Against Cancer” newsletter last fall.
