AzAHEC Offers Free Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Waiver Training Starting Feb. 14

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) waiver training will be offered through the five AzAHEC Regional Centers through four weekly 2-hour long sessions. Physicians require eight (8) hours of MAT training to apply to the Drug Enforcement Agency for a waiver to provide medication-assisted treatment for Opioid Use Disorder. This course consists of four sessions meeting the required hours of training. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants require 24 hours of training.

  • Feb. 14 | Noon — Module 1: “Overview” and Module 2: “Neurobiology of Opioid Use Disorder”
  • Feb. 21 | Noon — Module 3: “Patient Evaluation” and Module 4: “Pharmacology”
  • Feb. 28 | Noon — Module 5: “Specialty Topics” and Module 6: “Medication-Assisted Treatment and Urine Drug Testing”
  • Mar. 7 | Noon — Module 7: “Evidence-Based Counseling” and Module 8: “Clinical Management”

In-person attendance at a Regional Center (or alternative in-person attendance site as approved by an AzAHEC Regional Center) at all four events is required.

The above sessions will be followed by the Project ECHO sessions every other Thursday for 90 minutes including the Pain Management curriculum:

  1. “Chronic Pain and the Physical Exam”
  2. “Common Procedures in the Pain Clinic”
  3. “Spinal Cord Stimulation”
  4. “Pediatric Pain”
  5. “The Science Behind Opioid Addiction”
  6. “The Medical Use of Cannabinoids”
  7. “The Pain Pathways and Causes of Chronic Pain”
  8. “The Cognitive Components to Chronic Pain”

  • Register: https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6MxJhkQ0WGoa3WZ and identify through which center you will participate. UAHS and Tucson registrants should choose SEAHEC. UAHS attendees will be notified of location at UAHS after registration is complete.
  • All level of Arizona providers are welcome to participate at no cost.
  • A limited number of stipends are available through AzAHEC Centers.
  • Educational credits for this event are being requested. Please confer with your AzAHEC Center for updates.
