Congratulations to University of Arizona professor of medicine Nancy Sweitzer, MD, PhD, one of five women spotlighted as “Remarkable Moms,” May 11, the day before Mother’s Day at the “Remarkable Celebration Prom Night” to benefit Tu Nidito, a local non-profit agency dedicated to supporting children impacted by serious medical conditions and death.
Last year, Tu Nidito supported more than 800 children from 350-plus families.
This year’s prom-themed fundraiser was hosted at the Westin La Paloma Resort. All the mothers honored overcame deaths and medical conditions that challenged their families to build something bigger than themselves. And we’re not just talking about their children.
In the case of Dr. Sweitzer, it was coping with the death of her husband, Kurt, while raising two children and becoming chief of the University of Arizona Division of Cardiology and director of the UA Sarver Heart Center. He died in 2012, after a long battle with leukemia, just before she joined the faculty at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson.
Tu Nidito’s annual Remarkable Celebration honors Southern Arizona women who've impacted the lives of children and families.
