Cardiology Chief Among ‘Remarkable’ Women Celebrated on Mother’s Day Weekend

Last year, Tu Nidito supported more than 800 children from 350-plus families.

This year’s prom-themed fundraiser was hosted at the Westin La Paloma Resort. All the mothers honored overcame deaths and medical conditions that challenged their families to build something bigger than themselves. And we’re not just talking about their children.

In the case of Dr. Sweitzer, it was coping with the death of her husband, Kurt, while raising two children and becoming chief of the University of Arizona Division of Cardiology and director of the UA Sarver Heart Center. He died in 2012, after a long battle with leukemia, just before she joined the faculty at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson.
