Laura Meinke, MD, director of the University of Arizona Internal Medicine Residency Program – Tucson Campus, was featured in a photo accompanying a story about two UA graduate students winning a best in show award at the 2019 International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH), held Jan. 26-30 in San Antonio, Texas.
In the photo, Dr. Meinke (second from left) and the student researchers with the Arizona Simulation Technology and Education Center (ASTEC) are training in the ASTEC lab at the University of Arizona.
She is an assistant professor of medicine in the UA Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine specializing in pulmonary and critical care medicine.
Marissa Lovett, MS, a second-year medical student enrolled in the UA College of Medicine - Tucson and, and Eze Ahanonu, MS, a doctoral student in the UA Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, were recognized for a project, "Augmented Reality-Guided Wound Closure Application." The project utilizes a HoloLens to project a holographic overlay onto a wound to assist the learner with suture placement and technique. Its goals are to minimize skill degradation for residents and students at the UA Health Sciences.
Both are graduate student research specialists at ASTEC.
